The Butchers Bistro opened its doors in March 2005 to fulfill a passion for food and cooking that the owners Chris and Mel have.
Chris, born in Lanner near Redruth, Cornwall, grew up learning the importance of fresh food. At the age of five Chris helped his parents grow vegetables, hunt for rabbits and helped with the day to day cooking. At the age of eight, Chris had his first job as a butcher.
In 1999 after years of working with reputable local suppliers, he opened his own business, CG Meats, delivering to local hotels and guest houses and now to his own restaurant.
Mel, Chris’ partner, was born in St. Neot, Cornwall and was raised in a farming environment. Her parents would feed their family with all home grown produce, and this experience is evident in her choice of suppliers. Mel’s first job was in her local village grocery shop, where her interest in the catering trade began.
Our philosophy is simple – highest quality fresh food, infused with the flavours of Cornwall.
Now to be added to the resounding success of Chris and Mels Cornish rooted business is The Butchers Bistro Tapas Bar and Coffee Shop

The farm boasts 8km of grass resting strips where voles, butterflies, nesting and feeding birds are able to thrive – in fact over 80 species of bird, indigenous and visiting, have been recorded on the farm. Arable crops are protected using nature friendly treatments which allow non-evasive plants to grow, which in turn encourages insects that birds can feed their chicks with.
